TAG WE’RE IT!

About Us

Island Time was designed with FUN in mind. We are your solution to flexible childcare. We offer hourly childcare for up to 4 hours, after school programs, summer camp programs and more!

At Island Time Play, kids can play up to 4 hours at a time.  Hourly care when you need it, without the financial obligation when you don’t!  We are here when you need us.  For children 12 months to 12 years.

Check out our Programs and Rates and Hours pages for all the details!

Every child must be registered before participating in any activities at IT. There is no charge to register your child, so if you think your child will play within the next 6 months at Island Time, go ahead and register them now, that way when you are in a pinch, you’ve already done the legwork.

All families must have a reservation to play.  Just send us a text and request a time.  Standing reservations also available for 6 months.  All reservations are subject to availability.

Our Team

Dana

Dana is the proud owner of IT.  She and her husband (and teenage son) have called CB home for over 20 years.  She loves being a part of this community as a business owner and resident.  She comes with over 30 years working experience with children and has a degree in Special Education.  When she is not smiling about all things IT, you can find her on the beach with her camera or the turtles.

Heather

Heather, Assistant Director, married for over 20 years and has 2 adult sons. She has been in childcare for over 30 years and still loves it.  Although you will see her at the door much more, she is still the queen of potty training and loves to laugh, sing, and dance.

Lori

You will find Lori hanging with our youngest (toddlers) and the oldest (after-schoolers) during the day!  She has been a proud team member for over a year and has 3 beautiful children of her own.

Jennifer

Ms. Jennifer has been with IT for over a year and creates the best art with our 2 & 3yr olds.  This year you will find her in our new 3yr old preschool class.  When she’s not there, she is hanging with her grandson!

We are looking for more team members!    This summer is a great time to hang with some of the coolest kids around.  We need support in our hourly care rooms for kids under 5 and 5-9yr olds.  We also need support in our summer camp programs.

Amanda

Amanda is enjoying her first year teaching preschool at IT.  She comes to us with 8 years experience in pediatrics on the blood/cancer ward and 3 years teaching in the classroom.  Amanda enjoys soccer and crafting and of course keeping up with her 9yr old daughter’s many extra curricular activities.

Ashley

Ashley has been a proud IT member since she was 14!  She loves to organize and play with kids.  You can find her this school year with our after-schoolers when she isn’t traveling to CA or going to college in Wilmington.

Kassidy

Kassidy has been with IT for 2 years and looks forward to working while going to school in Wilmington.  When she’s not playing soccer and volleyball, you can find her hanging with our after-schoolers.

ISLAND TIME FAQs

How long have you been in business?

Island Time has been a fixed member of our community since May 2011.  In 2016 we needed more space and moved into our current location at 222 Winner Avenue.

What led you to create Island Time?

I was ready to rejoin the workforce, but really wanted to create a child friendly business to maximize time with my son.  Our island needed flexible childcare options, so it was a great fit!

How do you select your team members?

In general we look for energetic, positive, responsible team members.  We also like a team that’s a mix between new and experienced.

In what ways are your team members qualified for their positions at IT?

Our team members are all CPR & 1st Aid Certified and pass a background check.  Team members must be at least 21 to drive our vehicles (and have clean driving records).  We provide ongoing staff development to ensure best practices are being followed.

What makes Island Time different from other childcare programs?

We are not a licensed childcare provider.  We are a registered short term childcare facility.  Kids can play up to 4 hours a day on an as needed basis.  That being said, we exceed minimum team member-child ratios required of licensed childcare programs. What makes us different than other “drop-in” centers?  We are larger, offer multiple rooms that are age specific, and offer over 3,000 feet of outdoor space.

What do parents most love about IT?

They love that we love their children.  They appreciate that we are here, and continue to work to meet the needs of our community, especially through the pandemic.

What do kids love most about IT?

The playground, our indoor and outdoor climbing structures, the millions of legos, the sand, our team, their peers, the games.

What makes your space unique?

We are tucked away at the end of a street (not a part of a strip mall), offering a great parking lot, no through traffic, and privacy.  Our indoor space is over 4,500 square feet of fun.  We have multiple rooms which are separated for 1-4yr olds, 5-7yr olds, and 8-12 yr olds.   Unlike most “drop-in” facility, we offer over 3,000 feet of outdoor playground.

Do you serve children with special needs?

We are happy to care for all children.  We love to set up children for success, so we love working with families and our community to best care for all children.

What is your policy on bullying?

We love teaching kids how to solve problems with their peers, but also know when it’s important to step in.  We communicate openly with families and work with them to help solve problems.

What are your current COVID safety protocols?

We are following NHC Mask Protocols (masks worn indoors), we sanitize toys daily, and sanitize frequently touched items frequently (doors, nobs, handles, etc).  We are happy to report that we did not have any spread of COVID in our facility.  We pride ourselves on being transparent and have software to conduct contact tracing if its needed.

What are your health protocols in terms of washing hands, cleanind, surfaces, cleaning the building, etc.?

Kids wash/sanitize hands upon entering the building and before/after eating snack or lunch.  All touched surfaces are cleaned multiple times a day and all toys are sanitized daily with an electrostatic sprayer.

Are you able to serve children/students nut or other allergies?

Currently we are not a peanut free facility, as we don’t have any children with airborn allergies.   For right now, if we have a child with a food allergy, we have an allergy free table to eat with peers and it gets properly washed.  If we were to have a family with airborn peanut allergies, then we would become a peanut free facility.  Children’s safety is very important.
